Dear Jen. It was just a day or so ago that I stumbled across your Facebook page and saw the wonderful photos of your twin sons. Having one myself, very close in age, it was enjoyable seeing parallel images. I am shocked to hear this troubling news. I know in my heart you will fight this tooth and nail. You are a mother and every fiber in you wants to be there for your sons. I know, because that's how I'd feel. You can do this, and you will. Allowing people to help and taking the time you need to get healthy and strong is the best thing you can do right now.. you're off to a great start! God bless you and your family. I will be praying for you.
From Susan Hartman Boscoe

Jen, I was shocked to hear of your news. My thoughts are with you. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. When I was 20 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to go through brain surgery to have it removed. I was lucky, it turned out to be benign. I mention this because it was a very scary time in my life but it amazed me how people reach out and care! If there is anything you need please let me know, I live in Falmouth (even if someone to watch to watch the kids or anything at all). Feel free to email me and good luck, my thoughts are with you and I'll do all I can!
From Sarah (Paltz) Lewis

From Erica Grimm
I am so sorry to hear about this! It seems surreal to me, as I am all but too sure it does for you. But knowing you as I do, I am sure that you will continue to be strong and successful, no matter what you face. You have a great deal of support from family and friends and such a beautiful spirit and will to live the life you always dreamed of. I have no doubt that each obstacle you face will be met and overcome. Remember to let go of all that DOESN'T MATTER and accept help, love and support in all forms. Look at Eric and Kevin and Gary and remember that they are what matters. I wish you strength when you feel you don't have any and lots of love through the difficult times!
From Cara (Poutré) Boudreau
Dear Jen, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I will be praying for you and your family every day and would like to add you to our prayer chain if that's ok with you. I can keep it anonymous if you prefer. I know Gods grace and love coupled with your tenacity and strength will get you through this!! My mom is also a breast cancer SURVIVOR and I know you will be too. You are an amazing person and always have been..I am happy to help out and I know my family will as well.
Sending you lots of love, support and prayer,
Cara

From Kelly Druley-Herron
Just saw this news- ugh! It saddens me, but I've always thought humor, faith and bonding can get people through most struggles in life. I hope that you are able to find strength from those around you- especially your beautiful family! Your sons' cheeks are squeeze worthy! I hope you get to snuggle with them daily:)
I can tell you have been quite blessed not only with your family but with a nicely shaped head! Trust me, not everyone looks good bald;) You wear it well Jen- so work it girl! Holler at me if you need any old bandanas;)
And onto an old memory that may help...At FHS you weren't just one of the smartest and kindest people around- you were also one of the most hard working(I doubt any of that has changed). I remember on the field you were relentless in your pursuit on Defense. And if someone got by you initially, you would sprint to RECOVER and get back into the play to stop them- YOU didn't give up! And THAT made all the difference, no matter how frustrating or tiring it was- you were able to RECOVER. I think that's probably what you're setting out to do now with this battle- sprinting to get back into the play and eventually stop it. I know you have a fighting spirit inside! Use it to your advantage:)
My husband and I will be praying for you to KICK SOME CANCER ASS! A big hug from a far! And I'll see what we can do for the fundraiser:)

From Emma Josselyn
Jen, like everyone else, I was so shocked and saddened to hear that you are sick! I have been thinking of you and praying for you so much since hearing this news. I am glad that this website was put together so quickly, that way all the people who love and care about you can do something to help you in practical ways during this hard time. I know we have lost touch over the years, but I have so many fond memories of hanging out with you when we were younger...once a friend, always a friend! I will be praying that God bring you and your family peace, comfort, and strength to endure this battle. Hug and kiss those beautiful babies for me...and if you are ever on the Cape I would take them from you in a heartbeat (like to babysit, not kidnap!). Love, Emma xoxoxo

I want you to know that we all (Keith, Katelyn, Nevin, Mason, and myself) are praying for you and your sweet family. Keep thinking positive and know that God is with you always. Hi Jen,
I am so sorry to hear the news of your diagnosis. We have an unfortunately similar story in that I was diagnosed with cancer when my son was 3 months old. He was my inspiration and was what got me out of bed every day. I am proud to say that I have been cancer free for 21 months, and am confident that you will beat this, too. Your boys are gorgeous and will no doubt give you the motivation you need. Fight the fight, attitude is everything. And please don't hesitate to contact me if you want to chat or need some advice.
XO, Jane

Dear Jen and Garry,
As Garry knows I am a very, very old friend from the figure skating days, and was so happy to hook up on facebook and see that my old childhood friend had done so well for himself and had such a beautiful family !!! Obviously this moment is a set back for the both of you, but I am sure that together you will both get past this and be stronger because of it. I just wanted both of you to know that here in Rome, Italy quite far away a little family is rooting for you and praying that things will go well, in the hopes that we can meet to celebrate the big "R"!
So be strong, think positive that all will be ok!

Jen,
I am a friend of Lynda's, and received her email today. I wanted to send you a note as the daughter of a breast cancer survivor to encourage you in the hard work ahead. I know it is hard to take time for yourself, but my mom always said as she was going through chemo that a little bit of fresh air each day can make a big difference.

Hey jen....its late...as usual, I'm up with insomnia. Just wanted to let you know I think of you so often, at least daily...was so stricken with grief to hear of such a diagnosis to such a beautiful person. Literally gasped and dropped my phone when I read the intro page to your site. I pray for your continued support systems, strength, healing, and faith during this challenging time. I gather you know this by now...you have a great many people there for you, and I'm just a drop in the bucket...but I'm pretty sure you have enough buckets for a lake. :) take care. ~ryanne

From Jen Meus
Thanks for all the continued comments of encouragement. I love hearing from everyone. All your words mean so much. It's especially surprising to hear from so many of you that I've never met. I hope if nothing more what I can give back to everyone else in return, is a reminder of what really is important in life! (as someone so nicely pointed out was a perspective my situation and my "attitude" was providing them with, in an email I received earlier today)
My family and close friends who have been instrumental in spending hours out of their own day, as in yes daily, and away from their families and have greatly limited their free time all to help me are the best support system I could ever have. What great sacrifice they are making for us! They do this to help me and my family by manage this website, fielding all your emails/questions/comments, putting together the fundraiser, making phone calls and running errands on my behalf. And they have taught me dedication, love, and generosity like I never thought possible. I am eternally grateful and indebted to them and feel strong and remain humble daily knowing they are helping me and my family.
When hearing from all of you via Words of Encouragement, I truly feel inspired and am genuinely encouraged; it's a tremendous help to my emotional strength and positive attitude! Your support and the help Garry & I receive from people providing meals, child care help, and care packages with various goodies and supplies for our sons, are just a FEW of the things people are doing for us to 'lighten our load.' and it helps. We have also received gift cards and money gifts that have help us to supplement our income lost to my time away from work due to treatment, appointments, and decreased hours due to fatigue and other side effects I've experience as a result of chemo.
I don't even know how to say "thank you" for your motivational words and help, since the phrase is so often used in vein; it seems too weak in this situation. But since I'm not sure what else to say, I am hoping "Thank you" and "you are appreciated" will do. "Words of Encouragement" is doing it's job!
From Tanya Corriveau
You are amazing!! I just got the email about your fundraiser and am shocked. I don't go on FB much but I see such positives status updates and had no idea what they were related to. Your words have inspired me to make it a great day on many occasions and I had no clue what you must be going through. Absolutely amazing strength you have!! I'm still on the Cape and would love to help out any way possible. I'll spread the word of your fundraiser and may even be able to get some donations. Please lmk if there is anything else I can do. Pretty handy at it all lol
Many prayers for you and your family!!

Hi Jen,
Diana at RSI shared your situation and I wanted to let you know we are all keeping you in our prayers at Collingswood (Rockville, MD). I'm sure that many have probably shared success stories with you, but I wanted to share two more.. Both my mother and grandmother were diganosed with breast cancer, my mother at 45. And both are well today - my grandmother at a strong 96!! I see the strength in your face, and the love and prayers that continue to surround you will help you thru this. Thinking that you were in MD, I was going to hop in my car and come 'over' to do whatever you needed.. Given that you're in MA, we'll figure something out long distance! Know that we're holding you close in thought and prayer. Catherine Matthews

From Lori Newman
Dear Jen and Gary,
If anyone had to get this awful disease, I know that you too have the deep strength and conviction to fight it. You have overcome much in the past and this is just one more of those things for you two to combine your strength and fight together. I pray for you every day and have added your name to the breast cancer prayer list that goes around the world. My mom had stage 4, 13 years ago and is alive and well today. There are so many wonderful ways to fight this thing these days. You are strong, you are beautiful, you are woman! Much love,

From Crystal Knowlton (Flagg)
Hi Jen - My name is Crystal and I am a 2001 FHS graduate, I have never met you but was so touched when Mrs. Winslow told me your story. I just discovered your blog and have been glued to it. Your strengh is amazing, your family is beautiful and friends and support system priceless. Sending you strengh and love from Falmouth!!! <3>
From Joan Schulz
Jen,
I heard about your story from another mom who is a memeber of the West Suburban twins group I belong to outside of Boston. (I have 9 yr old bbg triplets). I was drawn to your site...and I want you to know my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. It is fantastic you have so many around you to draw on for support. I say this because my younger sister, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at 38, when her daughter was just 1.5 years and her son 4. She drew so much suport from the family and friends who surrounded her. Being a reporter and anchor at channel 6 in Maine, Ann immediately focused on how she could help others learn from her experience. She filmed a documentary about her experiences, "The Breast Cancer Diaries", which has been shown around the US and in many countries. Ann made it through a double mastectomy and radiation. Her experience helped her reflect on what mattered and she created a blog and non profit to help promote early detection and support for loved ones. When her husband got a job in CA, Ann willingly moved...she was 4 years in remission at this point. Then last fall we got the call we all dreaded...the cancer has metasisised to the lungs after nearly 6 years. Last year was a fight, with two surgeries to remove fluid and another to help her lungs contract and expand etc...We thought we would loose Ann...but somehow all the faith, prayers and support of others along with Ann's determination won out..When we thought we would be preparing for the final months, a new drug turned things around for Ann! Ann didn't stop the whole time in her determination to help others...she created a blog...you can find it if you google projectpink.com and wrote two books, "Pink Tips" and a collection of her blogs. She is devoted to helping others cope and promote early detection. For us on the East Coast it has been hard, but when I had the chance to visit this summer I saw how the community of friends she has amassed in Davis have been a lifeline....It is Ann's courage, determination and commitment to helping others...and a struggle to understand what this illness has been put here to teach her that I think is amazing. I am sorry if I am long winded and apologize if I sound preachy, but I wanted you to know that there are a lot of reasons to keep fighting and never give up. I would like to send you her book and am glad to if you give me an address to ship it too. I am thrilled Ann is coming to the East Coast on the 19th...she will speak at a conference in Maine and she has book signings at MA Gen and Dana Farber, where they will sell her books. I think her spirit and determination are incredible...I wanted to tell you her story in the hopes it will help inspire you to keep going too!...and savor all those moments with your beautiful boys and husband! You never know what can happen...check out Ann's site if you like...Keeping thoughts and prayers for you and your family! Joan Schulz (West Newton)

dear jen and family - i am a friend of brenda and kathleen's - she told me about you. i was diagnosed in may 2009 with colon cancer stage 2 that had broken thru my bowel wall , was trying to infiltrate my uterus, and at the time was inoperable. they were able to shrink it with a combo of chemo and radiation 75% . at that piont they were able to remove it and start another round of chemo. i finished treatment in march 2010 and have been ok since then. i thought i was done for- but i was very lucky and i have the feeling that you will be too. are you having any kind of riekki treatments ? i did and i think it helped . there is an organization in falmouth called haven for healing and they do free treatments for people undergoing treatment , they are wonderful , maybe you have something similar in your area. i did end up with chemo induced neuropathy of the hands and feet . i would check with your doctor to make sure that if there is a risk for it on your chemo regimen that they have you taking the supplements that protect against it . also if you start to get it you can space your treatments out further and that helps. it does improve somewhat after the chemo ends . i loved the pictures of your family , the kids are adorable and i can't imagine your agony at this devestating diagnosis. my kids were 17 and 19 when i was diagnosed and it it was devasting to me that i might leave them at that age so it must kill you to think about it - just keep looking forward to when you will be in remission- thats what helped me - sorry this is so long , i just wanted to let oyu know there is one more person pulling for you and i know that will join the club i am in- the survivors - my best to you and your family - suzanne white

Hi Jen my sister is the other Jen sturtevant in north falmouth. I heard the news and wanted to send u a message from the other sturtevant family. Just wanted to tell u to stay strong. Hey Jen (or should I say, long lost cousin?!!!) -
My brother just told me about the news and I knew I had to respond. We lost our mom (almost 4 years ago) to ovarian cancer and hearing your story just brought back all the memories from that time. The emotional roller coaster can be almost too tough to bear at times, but I agree with you and truly believe that having the right attitude can have such a positive impact. From our Sturtevant family to yours: stay strong, keep your chin up, and know that we have you in our thoughts and prayers. And like Kelley said, kick some cancer butt!!!

Thru the years I have gotten to watch her and Lynda's family grow and hear about their beautiful family and friends. I feel it is such a gift to know them. Please know that if there is anything, anything that you need I am here to help. Carrying you all with me everyday in love and prayer, Kerri Guertin <3>

I have not stopped thinking pink and thinking of you and your family since I learned the news. If you were really being paid for being awesome, you would have been millionaires years ago because you are just that awesome. But in the meantime I'm collecting as many paychecks from various friends as I can. :-) I believe in you guys so much, and I always think about the amazing stories of survival that have affected me personally- from my godmother who survived a very aggressive form of breast cancer (twice), to the co-founder of the non-profit I worked at in DC for 3 years who survived a form of pancreatic cancer that had literally never been seen before.
Your beauty and strength astound me Meus family. Je vous aime enormement! Gros bisous to les parents and les boys. Stay strong and carry on!

Believe in the power of prayer! Just look at those two precious boys and you'll know that miracles do happen!
10 yrs. ago I did the 3 Day, 60 Mile Walk for breast cancer with my sister. I did it not because anyone I loved was fighting the fight, I did it because I HAD to. Because I have a daughter, because we have boobs, because there are women (and men) out there that couldn't do it. I did it for you, for EVERY woman, I did it because unlike so many people who ask "Why me?", I ask "Why not me?"
Be strong Jen and feel the love and prayers around you and coming your way!
From Kathie Hebden
Dear Jen,
When I think of you, I picture an adorable beach baby with beautiful bonnets playing and swimming at Old Silver Beach!
At the end of this summer, I saw your parents and sister, Sarah, at the Gary's house when Chris was home. They told me all about your family and I was thrilled to hear the news that you had twin boys. Then, a month later, I heard the shocking news that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. My heart broke because you seem too young and vibrant to have cancer. But I know from personal experience that cancer is random. As a two time victor over breast cancer, I know all the emotions that you are experiencing (fear, sadness, disbelief, fear, anger, confusion, fear). I also know that you will find inner courage and strength that you never knew was there to help you win this battle against this insidious disease. Some things that helped me during treatment were laughter, faith, quiet walks, chocolate, and a few major meltdowns. The support of family and friends is huge so take advantage of any and all help that is offered.
I will pray for your recovery every night and I know you will be victorious.
Take care,
Kathie Hebden from the Old Silver Beach Crowd

Yesterday, Dusty's daughter told him that she had $90 to donate to your event. Teegan is 11 years old, she is currently the top fundraiser for the Tampa, FL Komen 3-day Youth Corps. She raised the money with a lemonade stand over a series of weekends. When she heard about how her dad, Dusty Showers, was coming to your event and collecting gifts for you from friends she decided to give the "extra" to you. Dusty's daughters clearly know how to pay it forward and are following in their dad's footsteps. Looking forward to meeting you in person on Saturday.

Hi Jen!
You and your babies are beautiful!!! I just wanted to share some thoughts that got me through my two-time cancer battles. I thought of chemo as my BEST FRIEND and my full time job. I know that sounds bizarre, but I felt like if I acted like I wanted it and it was my friend , my body wouldn't be against it. I had a 6 month old at the time and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do when I had to spend all day at the hospital for chemo and then come home and go to bed. But I just told myself that it was my job and when I woke up I would feel and enjoy her much more. You WILL DO IT, you CAN DO IT and you will overcome it!!! I think of you so often since I heard your story and please know many people are cheering for you in Falmouth...especially me!!!! Many blessings......Jill

Hi Everyone - All of you have been in my thoughts daily since I heard about your diagnosis, Jen. Every year I participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. This year held a special meaning and instead of collecting for the American Cancer Society, I decided to have all of my donations made out to "Jen's Helping Hands." I am so happy to be submitting over $1100 to your foundation. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the fundraiser on Saturday so I will be sending my collections to the Streeter Hill address. My love to all of you. I miss my Pebble Lane friends!

Hi Jen,
Sorry to hear the sad news! You are a strong young woman & with the support of your family & friends you will make it. Some of us have been touched by cancer & many miracles have occurred. A dear friend & my brother were diagnosed with cancer within a few days of each other; both are 20 years survivors, my friend was the one with breast cancer. Fight with all your might, I know you can do it! While your loved ones, friends & community are in your corner, you are the "fighter" - never give up. God is carrying you in the most difficult days ahead. You are in my thoughts & prayers. HUGS to you & your precious babies.

Hi Jen!
It has been awhile since I have checked your site, so I spent some time getting caught up on your blog. As I read your posts, it was as if I was reliving my own cancer journey. I shared so many similar thoughts... an overwhelming need to thank everyone, guilt that so many people were coming forward offering so many things, a desire to take control over my #s and to know exactly what was coming next, and most importantly, a stronger love and appreciation for my friends and family. I was also told that I was an inspiration and had a hard time with that at first, too. I am glad to see that you are embracing this journey and the support that comes along with it. I truly believe that I would not be here today if it weren't for my "army" of friends/family members, and even people that I didn't know that supported me. Someone told me that cancer would change me, but not in a bad way, and I absolutely agree. I am a better person because I am a cancer survivor, and so are you! We see the world in a different way. I am cheering for you and sending love and prayers your way. Keep fighting and remember some days you just have to put one foot in front of the other. Please reach out if you would like to talk.
Love,
Jane

Hello there,
I'm at LSA and used to work with Gary. I'm very sad to hear the news. We always remember Gary as a hard working, helful and to-be-fun-with friend.
I recently wrote an article about the papaya leaves can cure cancer . I have a friend 79 years old. He had cancer in his stomach and had surgery. Doctor said he should have only 6 months. He then drinks dry papaya leaves as tea. And after 6 years he still ... there, until now!
Please seach the net about it (I've got all info there). Papaya leaves can be found in Florida.
Wish you and your family all the best

jen, my husband was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in June, it had mets to his spine and he had a 6 hour surgery to remove the 11th vertebrae with a piston like cage. If he had not had the surgery he would have been paralyzed in 2 days. He is now fighting the lung tumor and is winning with the healing of God. He is on a medication that is melting this cancer away without chemo. I will pray for you as many have been put in our path for prayer since this diagnosis, we feel the prayer for others helps him heal. I do not know your faith position but I know that God's promises in the Bible have been our lifeline, they are truth. They bring peace and confidence that He is in control. "He will never leave or forsake us", Your life is precious to Him, He wants to heal and wants you to be there for your darling children. God loves you and agonizes over your disease. Christ died for you, he died to heal ALL sickness and disease. Claim this for yourself and pray for your own healing. He will never disappoint. Blessings your way.

I am so sorry to hear about this! It seems surreal to me, as I am all but too sure it does for you. But knowing you as I do, I am sure that you will continue to be strong and successful, no matter what you face.

I will be praying that God bring you and your family peace, comfort, and strength to endure this battle. Hug and kiss those beautiful babies for me...and if you are ever on the Cape I would take them from you in a heartbeat (like to babysit, not kidnap!). Love, Emma xoxoxo

My mom fought breast cancer and won and I know that you will do it too. I send all the love and hope I have to help you in this journey.
From Jane Farrington (Walker)
Hi Jen,
I am so sorry to hear the news of your diagnosis.

Much love,

(ps..my neighbor behind me, who was a nurse at NW Hospital also has metastatic breast cancer. I was devestated when she told me the cancer had returned, but 4 years later she is doing ok!)

dear jen and family - i am a friend of brenda and kathleen's - she told me about you. i was diagnosed in may 2009 with colon cancer stage 2 that had broken thru my bowel wall , was trying to infiltrate my uterus, and at the time was inoperable. they were able to shrink it with a combo of chemo and radiation 75% . at that piont they were able to remove it and start another round of chemo. i finished treatment in march 2010 and have been ok since then. i thought i was done for- but i was very lucky and i have the feeling that you will be too. are you having any kind of riekki treatments ? i did and i think it helped . there is an organization in falmouth called haven for healing and they do free treatments for people undergoing treatment , they are wonderful , maybe you have something similar in your area. i did end up with chemo induced neuropathy of the hands and feet . i would check with your doctor to make sure that if there is a risk for it on your chemo regimen that they have you taking the supplements that protect against it . also if you start to get it you can space your treatments out further and that helps. it does improve somewhat after the chemo ends . i loved the pictures of your family , the kids are adorable and i can't imagine your agony at this devestating diagnosis. my kids were 17 and 19 when i was diagnosed and it it was devasting to me that i might leave them at that age so it must kill you to think about it - just keep looking forward to when you will be in remission- thats what helped me - sorry this is so long , i just wanted to let oyu know there is one more person pulling for you and i know that will join the club i am in- the survivors - my best to you and your family - suzanne white

Dear Jen,
When I think of you, I picture an adorable beach baby with beautiful bonnets playing and swimming at Old Silver Beach!

Sending lots of love, light and healing your way!
XO

Hi-
I read about Jen in the Falmouth Enterprise article a couple of weeks ago and finally had a chance to visit the website. I am a breast cancer survivor myself and was diagnosed 3 years ago. I am a mom and grandmother and loved seeing the beautiful pictures of Jen and her family, especially her precious twin boys! I have other oommitments on Saturday, but might be able to stop by the Sea Crest to bid or purchase raffle tickets that afternoon. I hope the event is a huge success for all! Sincerely, Diane Freitas / East Falmouth

Hi Jen,
Sorry to hear the sad news!

Jen,
I am thinking of you and pulling for you to get through the fight of your life. If anyone can kick cancer in the ass, it is you. Your determination and strength is inspiring. Take this time now to relax and reflect. You will look back a few years from now when your boys are running around and you are driving them to school, soccer, or playdates and ask where did the time go! XOXO. Kellie
